VILLAGES
Soubès
Atmospheric medieval village set in the foothills of the Cevennes. Numerous walks with beautiful views of vineyards and forests. Lovely quiet central square with archetypal French café/Restogrill. Village picnic and meeting point where the old men still gather to play ‘boules,’ whilst the women sit and talk nearby.
St Guilhem-le-Désert
World heritage site and officially one of France’s most picturesque villages, at the heart of which lies an 11th century abbey. Walk up to the castle ruins above and enjoy spectacular views. Nearby is the Pont du Diable, built by the Benedictine monks. Enjoy swimming in the crystal clear waters below - there is a large river beach and café nearby. Canoeing is also on offer here.
Villeneuvette
A picture-postcard village, and the nearby Cirque de Mourèze with its intriguing rock formations.
Lunas
A picturesque village on the banks of the river Gravezon, and nearby Joncels, a well preserved hamlet with ramparts from the twelfth century.

La Couvertoirade

Soubès Café

La Couvertoirade
A tiny fortified town with striking features which was once the property of the Knights Templars. Some visitors have spent a whole day here soaking up the atmosphere of a location untouched by modern times - a hidden gem. Possibly travel on to Nant for a leisurely lunch and then on to Cantobre - the name (quant obra) means “ what a masterpiece.”
Pezanas
Fascinating little streets with mansions virtually unchanged since the 1600s. Rich in art and history and full of cafès and restaurants.
Le Caylar
A village crowned by extremely jagged crumbling rock formations. Lovely old church and panoramic views over the Larzac plateau.
