| TOWN AND CITIES |
| Lodève Market Town - “The Gateway to the
Mediterranean” |
| Stroll around the ancient streets, see the beautiful
13th century cathedral of St. Fulcran. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of
the Saturday morning market, where local producers and colourful
characters sell their goods. Visit the Musée Fleury which has regular
renowned art exhibitions. |
| In July witness the ‘Voix de la Mêditerranée’ when the
town is filled with singers, poets and storytellers. |
| Throughout May and June there are numerous
celebration days, including medieval re-enactments and music festivals
when the whole town is filled with street performers. Use the outdoor
swimming pool or stroll along the riverbanks. Walk up to the Montbrun
district with its medieval doors and 14th century windows. |
| Visit the workshops where period, and contemporary
carpets and soaps are manufactured, and see inspirational displays in
new initiatives, such as Horizons Intérieur on the Grande Rue. Or simply
sit in one of the street cafès and enjoy the sights and sounds of a
truly authentic French market town. |

geographical location. Now known for the motorway viaduct which turns
road building into an art form. Enjoy a river boat trip which passes
into the heart of the region, and takes you right underneath this
extraordinary structure. |
| Montpellier |
| One of the most
progressive and stylish towns in France; a fascinating combination of
old and modern architecture - see the area of Antigone. Brilliant
shopping and restaurants too. Leave the car at Masson (only about 40
minutes drive from Lodève) and enjoy the tram ride in. |
| Beziers |
| Lovely town set on a rocky
outcrop beside the river Orb, famous for the Cathedral of Saint-Nazaire,
and overlooking the great plain of the Herault. |
| Carcassonne |
| About an hour and a half’s
drive on the motorway. World famous medieval city with the largest
medieval fortress in Europe. |
| Nîmes |
| The best example of a Roman town outside Italy, and
Narbonne and Perpignan with their unmistakeable Spanish influences, all
make excellent day’s out. Even Spain itself is within reach, being only
one hour and forty-five minutes’ drive away! |
